Having a vegetable tray is a sure fire way to increase your vegetable intake.
Having a vegetable tray is a sure fire way to increase your vegetable intake. It’s inverse to the principle “out of sight out of mind”. We’ve all been taught to store our vegetable in the “vegetable drawers” in our refrigerator, but this puts them out of sight. To make it a thoughtless choice, you have to put your vegetables front and center. Follow these 5 steps to build your own vegetable tray! Step 1
Order a reusable vegetable tray or look through your cabinets, you may have gotten one for your wedding. It should have a clear lid so you can see the deliciousness inside. Here is one similar to mine: Vegetable Tray
Step 2
Buy vegetables to fill your tray. I know what you’re thinking, where do I begin?
Don’t over think this one, simply buy what is on SALE!
This provides many benefits:
1. It means you’ll only be buying produce that is in season and currently plentiful. This means that your vegetables will be at peak freshness and contain the most nutrients.
2. It’s more sustainable, more local, and better for the environment. Buying something that is out of season means it was grown somewhere else, somewhere far, far away. Then, shipped across the world.
3. It’s cheaper!

Step 3As soon as you get home from the store, wash and cut your vegetables. They do you no good if they go into the vegetable drawer; vegetables only go to the vegetable drawer in your refrigerator to die… a slow and lonely death. Eat your vegetables so they can provide you life! Step 4
You will only have to perform this step one time. Clear some space front and center in your refrigerator so you have a place to put your vegetable tray. Chances are, whatever you get rid of from your refrigerator wasn’t good for you anyway. Once your vegetable tray has a home, it will grow to be a valued member of your family.
Step 5
This one is done daily… Eat the vegetables. It is a competition in my house to not let a single vegetable spoil in the vegetable tray (or in the house as a whole). Let vegetables spoil at the grocery store. Your vegetables are made to be eaten!
Note: dip your vegetables in ranch or blue cheese dressing, humus, or anything else that tickles your fancy. The additional fat will help your body to better absorb and store many of the valuable nutrients in your vegetables. Plus the added flavor is a bonus.

The Steps that are holding you back...
Shopping (Step 2) and Chopping (Step 3) are the hardest.
If step 2 is holding you back, there is an answer. There are numerous grocery delivery options from large chains such as Wal-mart to smaller organic co-ops. A quick GOOGLE SEARCH brought up 41 million results, you can find something…
You can buy pre-cut vegetables but cutting your own is beneficial for many reasons. Chopping is one of the toughest tasks when preparing a meal and the more you practice the easier it gets. Second, it burns calories, just like any other activity that requires you to stand, while also being coordinated, balanced and focused. You’d think I was talking about playing golf! It takes me about 15 minutes to wash, chop and prepare my vegetable tray, which leaves 10,065 minutes left for the week. I think you can find the time...

Your one-stop shop to improved health
Having a vegetable tray makes increasing the vegetables in your life a cinch. If you’re at home, just take it out and set it on the counter, it’ll be hard not to graze on the good stuff. If you’re heading out and need a snack to go, pop open the lid and “WALLA” 5 seconds later you’ll have a handful of vegetables in a to-go container ready to hit the road with you!
Believe me... Having a vegetable tray prepared and readily available is your one-stop shop to improved health.
